Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will relax national border restrictions for tourists who have been given the Covid-19 vaccine in full.

Citing a Bloomberg report, the government is making plans to relax the 14 -day quarantine period on tourists who have received two doses of the vaccine.

However, tourists entering Canada will still have to undergo testing for the virus and may be quarantined for a shorter period of time.

The plan is expected to be announced in the next few days, however, it remains unclear when the changes will be implemented or whether Canada will open its borders to non -US tourists at the same time.

Pressure is mounting for Canada and the U.S. to loosen sanctions in effect since March last year, where it has led to a drastic drop in land and air traffic between the two countries. The agreement limiting non -essential travel will be renewed on June 21st.

Stakeholders and government officials of the two countries say there is a sense of urgency now, as this may be the last chance to open the border in time for the summer.

The extension of the border blockade for another month will have a greater impact for the tourism sector which will restrict movement for movement for the July 1 national holiday in Canada and the weekend in the US.

The loonie dollar, which initially rose following the report, re -traded lower against the US dollar which began to show a recovery after being impacted by disappointing NFP readings.
