WWW Original Code Auctioned As NFT With Bids Starting At $ 1,000

 The original code of the World Wide Web or synonymous as the WWW worked on by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 was auctioned as a non-fungible token (NFT) with the title ‘This Changed Everything’.


The auction price starts at $ 1,000 and is managed by Sotheby’s from June 23 to 30.

The NFT contains several elements:


1/ File containing 9,555 lines of code including three language implementations and protocols founded by Berners-Lee himself, namely, HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) and URLs (Uniform Resource Identifiers)



2/ Personal letter from Berners-Lee


3/ A vector file that displays the code and can be printed as a poster


4/ A 30 -minute silent video showing the code being typed


Berners-Lee described the choice to NFT the code as a satisfaction as a computer scientist: "It feels right to digitally sign my autograph on a completely digital artefact."


The existence of the web as the main information retrieval service of the internet is one of the important achievements in human civilization since the advent of the printing press in Europe in the 15th century.
