UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson today is expected to confirm his plans to lift almost all Covid-19 restrictions in England from 19 July.
However, ahead of the press conference to be held today, Boris Johnson has asked his citizens to be careful.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PM Johnson said that the global pandemic was not over.
“Caution is critical, and all citizens must take responsibility so that the progress made in combating Covid in the past, is not compromised, and ensures NHS health institutions are protected” Johnson said.
He warned that Covid-19 cases would continue to rise as sanctions reopened, with the latest daily case figure in the UK having reached around 30,000 a day.
Today's press conference will also see the latest data on the Covid-19 situation, with Downing Street saying current data shows rates of hospital admissions, serious illness and deaths from Covid will continue, but be at lower levels than before the vaccination program began.
Earlier, PM Johnson had put forward a proposal to repeal rules on the wearing of face masks and social incarceration, as well as directives to work from home, cited as ‘the path to freedom’.
