Malaysian Manufacturing Sales Trigger Significant Increase In May 2021

 Malaysian manufacturing sales continued to show an increase of 37.2% year -on -year to RM122.7 billion recorded in May 2021.


However, if you want to compare with the previous month, the sales value has decreased by 6.1% according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).


Head of statistics Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the significant increase in sales value was supported by the increase in the petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products sub -sectors (+48.7%), especially in the manufacture of coke products and refining products.


According to him, the increase was also influenced by the growth of the electrical and electronic products sub -sector (+31.0%), which was supported by computer manufacturing, electronic products and the optical industry.



He also added that the transport equipment and other manufacturing products sub-sector also recorded an increase of 59.5% mainly in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.


In terms of employment, Mohd Uzir said that the number of employees in the manufacturing sector in May 2021 increased 28.2% year -on -year to 2.24 million people compared to 2.16 million people in May 2020.


Salaries and wages paid also increased by 6.4% to RM7.42 billion during the month with the average salary and wages per employee being RM3,316.


Meanwhile, the sales value per employee increased 33.4% to RM54,875 compared to RM41,136 achieved in the same period last year.
