Apricot Evolution Will Enhance Internet Transformation In Asia Pacific

 Google and Facebook announced participation in the development of a new submarine cable system to be implemented in 2024.


This development is aimed at enhancing the internet network in the Asia Pacific region known as Apricot.


The Apricot infrastructure project will also connect Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Guam, the Philippines and Indonesia and assist in meeting the growing demand for broadband access as well as 5G wireless connectivity.


In March, the company announced two new transpacific submarine cables that will connect Singapore to the US west coast, Bifrost and Echo.



For your information, the Echo and Apricot cables are complementary submarine systems that will enhance the resilience of Google Cloud and other companies ’digital services.


According to Facebook, the new fiber link spanning Asia Pacific has an initial design capacity of more than 190 terabits per second.


While Google last year announced a spending plan of $ 10 billion to help India digitize in the next 5 to 7 years.


In addition, the two Silicon Valley giants have made investments to develop internet infrastructure in regions that are seen to have high growth potential.
