Bursa Malaysia opened higher in today's trading session after being supported by buying interest amid mixed market sentiment on the outlook for the domestic economy.
At 9.15am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 3.08 points to 1,505.05 from 1,501.97 at the close on Thursday.
According to Bernama, the key index opened 1.39 points better at 1,503.36.
On the overall market, gainers outnumbered losers by 238 out of 149, while 284 counters were unchanged, 1,546 untraded and 32 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 361.36 million units worth RM148.99 million.
Malacca Securities said investors seemed to continue to monitor local political developments and yesterday the FBM KLCI was slightly lower following the increase in the daily Covid-19 case.
"Meanwhile, if we look at the performance of the Nasdaq yesterday, we are confident that hunting activities for low value stocks will emerge in the technology sector," he added.
Investors are also seen to be inclined to observe the building materials sector especially in the aluminum industry today after metal prices showed an increase.
Meanwhile, investors are waiting for the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data for the second quarter of 2021 to be published today.
For heavyweights, Maybank rose two sen to RM8.03, Petronas Chemicals increased one sen to RM8 and IHH Healthcare declined two sen to RM5.81.
TNB and Public Bank were unchanged at RM9.70 and RM3.95 respectively.
For active stocks, Opcom Holdings jumped 5.5 sen to 57.5 sen, KNM Group rose one sen to 21 sen, while Serba Dinamik rose 1.5 sen to 43.5 sen and Ta Win Holdings fell one sen to 16 sen.
On the index board, the FBM ACE rose 3.48 points to 7,148.51, the FBM 70 rose 47.35 points to 14,584.72 and the FBMT 100 Index rose 25.33 points to 10,749.20.
The FBM Emas Index jumped 26.95 points to 10,034.45 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index added 41.23 points to 12,128.18.
By sector, the Financial Services Index rose 9.26 points to 14,780.59, the Industrial Products and Services Index rose 0.63 points to 189.43 and the Plantation Index rose 21.55 points to 6,143.08.
