Following last week’s decision, Facebook has finally announced its new name, Meta yesterday.

Meta is a new name to the entire ecosystem of the social media giant, but it has no impact on the products and services it offers.

This means the Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus apps still retain the name, owned by Meta.

The new era of Facebook (known as ‘Meta’) is more focused on the establishment of the metaverse, a virtual sharing space that combines 3 subsets: virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and the internet.

In line with Facebook’s hopes of becoming a metaverse pioneer, Meta is said to have over 10,000 staff focused on the development of this technology.

Part of the Meta plan is arguably almost launched. For example, Horizon Home - an initial vision of the company to create a ‘home base’ in the metaverse.

Through Horizon Home, users can communicate with each other, meet, watch videos, and play games, access the app with friends or family without the distraction of motion sickness.

In addition, some of the products that Meta is still working on include: Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, Horizon Venues, Quest for Business, and Gravity Sketch.

All are still in beta testing and are expected to be fully launched in 2023.
