UK Health Minister Sajid Javid has warned that the number of Covid-19 cases in the country could reach 100,000 next winter.
However, he said the government had no plans to tighten sanctions in England, but they would remain vigilant and prepare for any eventuality.
UK health leaders have previously urged the British government to introduce ‘Plan B’ as a measure to prevent the Covid-19 crisis from getting worse in the winter.
On Wednesday, another 49,139 cases were reported in the country, which also marked an eight-consecutive day of infection cases exceeding 40,000.
Meanwhile, Sajid Javid also said that health authorities have identified a new version of the Delta coronavirus variant that is currently being developed in the country, but it is unlikely to pose a major threat to the UK.
To date, four million people in the UK have received the Covid-19 booster vaccine.
He also informed the UK has bought 730,000 doses of two antiviral drugs that could help treat Covid-19 but they still need approval from regulators.
