French Beard! UK Fails to Fulfill Post-Brexit Agreement?

While the European Union (EU) and the UK are still trying to reach an agreement on the issue of the Northern Ireland protocol, France has intervened with its plans to block access to the Channel Tunnel and the port of Calais against Britain.

Members of the fishermen’s association said in a statement on Thursday they would use a large number of vehicles to block the Channel Tunnel, which is used to send goods via rail between the UK and France.

The move was made in protest following Britain’s failure to issue more fishing licenses in UK waters as promised in the post-Brexit agreement.

French fishermen say there should be more licenses allocated by the UK, and now, their patience is running low.

Previously, French fishermen had taken action alone, where in April, they had blocked trucks carrying fish from UK waters to a processing center in France.

In May, French boats blocked the port of Saint Helier in Jersey, forcing the UK to send two patrol boats.

Meanwhile, the UK in a statement said the country was disappointed with the threat of protests by French fishermen.

According to a Downing Street spokesman, they have licensed nearly 1,700 EU vessels in total, and it is in line with commitments in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
