Malaysia 's IPI Rises 2.5% In September 2021

 The Malaysian Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased 2.5% in September 2021 according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).


Citing a statement from chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, the increase was contributed by a 4% increase in the manufacturing index and 0.4% in the electricity index while the mining index recorded a decrease of 3%.


The 3rd quarter of IPI 2021 declined by 1.1% compared to the same quarter in 2020 as the decline was affected by the fall of all electricity, mining and manufacturing indices at 3.1%, 2.2% and 0.7%.



The IPI from January to September 2021 recorded a growth of 7.6% over the same period in 2020. The increase was contributed by the manufacturing index of 9.6%, the mining index of 2.3% and the electricity index of 1.6%.


The output of the manufacturing sector on a year -on -year basis increased by 4% in September 2021 after registering a growth of 0.6% in August 2021.


Hujar Uzir further, the main sub -sectors that contributed to the growth of the manufacturing sector in September 2021 were electrical and electronic products at 12.3%, petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastic products at 6.1%and food, beverages and tobacco at 2.1%.


He added that export -oriented industries grew 6.7% while import -oriented industries declined 1.9%.
