The post-Brexit issue is heating up as Britain and France are once again at loggerheads over fishing rights, with both sides blaming each other.

On Sunday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron met to discuss the issue.

The UK says it is now up to France to withdraw from threats over port access.

However, Macron expects a positive response from Britain or France to trigger a worse trade response this week.

The dispute comes ahead of Tuesday, the deadline for more permits to be granted for French fishing boats to operate in UK waters and otherwise, UK fishing boats could be barred from using some ports in the country.

After the meeting on Sunday, French officials said both sides agreed to take practical steps in resolving the issue.

However, the statement was denied by Downing Street who said no measures had been agreed following the meeting.

Meanwhile in a separate report, European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic accused the UK of trying to spark the Brexit controversy and urged UK negotiator David Frost to step down.

He also called on the UK to reconsider the EU’s proposal to reduce checks on goods from Britain entering Northern Ireland under the trade protocol.
