US Offers $ 10 Million Reward for 'DarkSide' Cybercrime Group

 The United States Department of State (US) will award a $ 10 million reward for any information leading to the identification or location of key individuals within the cybercrime organization, DarkSide.


According to FBI sources, DarkSide is a Russian -based cybercrime organization responsible for a cyber attack last May against the Colonial Pipeline company and has caused its closure for several days leading to gas price spikes, panic buying and fuel shortages in the southeastern U.S..



According to sources, Colonial Pipeline had paid nearly $ 5 million in Bitcoin to regain access to their system from hackers and the U.S. justice department in June obtained about $ 2.3 million in ransom.


The U.S. Department of State initially offered a reward of up to $ 5 million then it was raised to $ 10 million in July for any information leading to the identification or location of individuals acting on the instructions or under the control of a foreign government, participating in cyber activity with malicious intent against U.S. infrastructure development.
