Bill Gates wants to be a farmer?

Bill Gates who is famous for revolutionizing personal computing has lately been seen in the farmland sector.

Microsoft founder and his ex -wife, Melinda, are the top farmland owners in the United States (US) having acquired more than 269,000 acres over the past decade.

Gate made a surprise appearance in 2017 when he bought $ 520 million worth of U.S. farmland from the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board and has continued to invest ever since.

According to a study from FarmTogether, the farmland sector had an average return of 11.0% per annum between 1992 and 2020 and it provides an investment platform that allows eligible investors to purchase stakes in U.S. farmland without buying the entire farm.

In comparison, the S&P 500 returned only 8.0%.

When considered on a risk -adjusted basis, farmland outperforms the stock market by broad margins and the performance of traditional real estate is better than bonds and gold.
