Australia seems unable to escape the grip of the Covid-19 epidemic after the country’s highest-populated state posted its highest daily number in two months on Tuesday.

New South Wales (NSW) which is now poised to lift all its sanctions measures, recorded 804 new Covid-19 infections on Monday, up 50% from the previous day.

This is the biggest record ever recorded since early October, which is when the city of Sydney was under restrictions to combat the delta variant.

Meanwhile, Victoria is also under pressure to curb the latest pandemic outbreak, with daily infections hovering around 1,200 cases.

Aussie dollar trading initially declined following the report, but rebounded early in the European session after testing the 0.7100 price level against the US dollar.

Investors are now awaiting the Australian jobs report to be published on Thursday, which will show current labor market developments in the country as sanctions begin to be lifted gradually.
