The WhatsApp messaging app has launched testing of payments in crypto in the United States (US) in collaboration with Novi wallet, a Meta product (formerly known as Facebook).

For the record, the testing took place over the past 6 weeks involving stablecoin, Pax Dollar (USDP) Paxos products.

While testing of Novi’s wallet actually took place in October this year, it was followed by testing of crypto payments for WhatsApp.

According to Novi head Stephane Kasriel, sending crypto money via WhatsApp is similar to sending messages, files, photos, and music.

Interestingly, there will be no charges for sending and receiving cryptocurrencies and there is no limit on the amount of payments.

Previously, Diem's original name was 'Libra' and Novi started with 'Calibra'.

For the record, Diem and Novi’s journey before launching the test was very long due to cryptocurrency legal issues in the US.

When Novi had already started rolling out its testing two months ago, Diem’s status as a stablecoin was still in question.
