CIMB CEO Resigns And Appointed As HSBC CEO

CIMB Group Holdings Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) and CIMB Bank Malaysia deputy CEO Omar Siddiq have resigned and joined HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd as CEO.


Bursa filings reported Omar resigned from the group to pursue a different opportunity.


For the record, Omar joined CIMB Group in November 2018 as chief operating officer and was appointed CEO in October 2020.



For the time being, the group has appointed Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad as the group's CEO.


In the meantime, Omar will replace Stuart Milne as CEO who will retire in March 2022 after 40 years of service with the HSBC group.


HSBC Asia Pacific co-chief Surendra Rosha welcomed Omar by saying Omar's vast experience and in-depth knowledge of the local market would support the group's Asian growth ambitions.


Omar will join the boards of HSBC Bank Malaysia and HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd as CEO and member of the Asia Pacific executive committee.


Meanwhile, today's trading session saw both CIMB and HSBC shares rise by 0.18% and 1.63%, respectively.
