Ethereum 2.0 No Longer Exists! This is the Ethereum Foundation Explanation

thecekodok

Yes, it is rumored that Ethereum 2.0 was removed and replaced with a 'consensus layer'.

The change in Ethereum 2.0 (Eth2) terminology → ‘consensus layer’ also had an impact on the entire Ethereum community as it was also accompanied by network improvements.

Why?

In fact, major developers have stopped using the terminology since the end of 2021. Instead they call this project by:

Eth1: Execution layer

Eth2: Consensus layer

Eth1 + Eth2 = Ethereum (comprehensive and complete network)

Some aspects that remain through this rebranding:

Change of Proof-of-Work (POW) mechanism to Proof-of-Stake (POS)

Mining activities that include the ability of computers connected to a network to authenticate transactions

This change in terminology also has an impact on several things:

Software that is maintained and integrated with new components

Execution layer - the location of smart contracts and network rules

Consensus layer - ensures all connected devices run in accordance with the rules and imposes action on denials.

It is at this layer of consensus that it can be assessed whether Ethereum is ready to switch to POS or not.

These changes also to some extent help in the clash of scam activities.

Anyway, since the announcement of Ethereum 2.0 or ETH2, many scammers have started lobbying investors to convert ETH1 tokens to ETH2, and even a handful claiming to convert ETH before the transition to Eth2.

The renaming of this term also to some extent gives a clear picture that in fact Ethereum 2.0 is not present after Eth1 but both are present simultaneously, except for a change of mechanism.
