Exchanges Celebrate Chinese New Year Earlier With Profits

 At 9.05am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 1.16 points at 1,521.18 from Friday's close of 1,520.02.


The index opened 0.3 points at 1,519.72.


It opened lower before rebounding high on a boost by selected heavyweights led by IHH Healthcare and Press Metal Aluminum Holdings Bhd.


On the broader market, investors saw gainers outpacing losers by 192 to 135, while 161 counters were unchanged, 1,760 untraded and 52 suspended.


Total turnover at 109.91 million units worth RM54.79 million.


Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice -president Thong Pak Leng said the regional market would remain volatile ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays.



He added that the local bourse will only trade in the morning so they expect relatively low market participation. Therefore, the KLCI will hover in the range of 1,515-1525.


Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia is only open for half a day today and will be closed for 2 days on Tuesday and Wednesday for the Chinese New Year celebration.


Heavyweights saw IHH Healthcare advance 5 sen at RM6.45, Press Metal rose 4 sen at RM6.13, Axiata Group Bhd added 3 sen at RM3.77 and Hong leong Financial Group Bhd strengthened 22 sen at RM18.68.


Active stocks saw Daya Materials Bhd rise 0.5 sen to 1 sen, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd added 4.5 sen to 99.5 sen and Pertama Digital Bhd gained 2 sen to 68.5 sen while AirAsia X Bhd declined 0.5 sen to 4.5 sen.


On the index board, FBM ACE declined 19.17 points at 6,039.86 while FBM 70 gained 24.15 points at 13,385.36, FBM Emas added 5.97 points at 10,907.01, FBMT 100 was strong 10.58 points at 10,617.74 and FBM Emas Shariah reached 11.92 points at 11,592.51.


The Financial Services Index decreased 0.06 points at 15,779.58, the Products and Services Industry index reached 0.31 points at 200.72 and the Malay Plantation index 21.810 points at 6,628.30.
