After two days of urgent announcements from Twitter, the world’s largest communications platform, Reddit, decided to take the same step as Twitter which launched its latest feature by allowing users to use NFT on someone’s profile picture. Based on the report, Reddit is also testing a feature that allows its users to set any NFT as their own profile picture.
As we already know this is different from the Ethereum -based NFT dubbed CryptoSnoop which was released last year. However, Reddit has yet to decide how Reddit will provide NFT support.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Reddit said that NFT testing is still in its infancy and not yet ready for public use.
Reddit spokesman Tim Rathschmidt said, “We are always exploring opportunities to add value to Reddit users and the community. We are currently testing the ability to use NFT as a profile picture (avatar) and ownership verification. It's just a small internal experiment and no decision has been made about expanding it. ”
For a while, Reddit has been running different NFT initiatives. The social media platform has also provided a dedicated page for NFT -related activities, namely nft.reddit.com.
Currently, the NFT domain only focuses on CryptoSnoos which features Reddit’s own digital collection. “Snoo” essentially represents Reddit’s own Aliem mascot and his collection is just a variation of Snoo’s image.
However, developer Nima Owji was the first to identify this new NFT test. The developer also found a banner referring to the project on the Reddit app. Owji speculated that this image could represent a Reddit expansion beyond CryptoSnoos.
Additionally, Owji also found references in Reddit code, looking like a collection of NFT tests on OpenSea. It appeared on the Ethereum Rinkeby test network, a platform that supports blockchain experiments.
However, some Redditors are unhappy with Reddit for switching to NFT. Users have also expressed displeasure on the Reddit forum. With this it is undeniable that NFT continues to gain a place among the market.
