The Exchange Maintained Yesterday's Bounce Momentum For This Reason

 At 9.05am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 0.24 points at 1,542.14 from Tuesday's close of 1,541.9.


The index opened 0.51 points at 1,542.41.


It opened higher after investors picked up Wall Street and local bourse’s overnight performance signals.


On the broader market, investors saw gainers outnumber losers by 162 to 123, while 265 counters were unchanged, 1,723 untraded and 16 suspended.


Total turnover at 198.84 million units worth RM63.29 million.


A note issued by Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd stated that positive sentiment in the market will continue but price increases may be limited as it tracks mixed sentiment on Wall Street.



In addition, crude oil prices were at US $ 80 a barrel when the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies decided to implement a plan to increase oil production in February and thus reduce concerns about a surplus in the first quarter.


Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) decline 3 sen at RM8.33, IHH Healthcare Bhd bud 4 sen at RM6.78 while Public Bank and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd remained at RM4.13 and RM8.78.


Next, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd added 2 sen to RM5.44 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd rose 1 sen to RM9.19.


Active stocks saw Bintai Kinden Corp Bhd and SMTrack Bhd rise 0.5 sen at 21 sen and 26 sen, Avillion Bhd added 11 sen while Iris Corp Bhd remained at 18 sen.


On the index board, the FBM Emas index rose 7.51 points at 11,208.74, FBM Emas Shariah added 0.86 points at 12,055.88 and FBM ACE drove 28.5 points at 6,600.81.


Meanwhile, the FBM 70 fell 10.16 points at 14,293.41 and the FBMT 100 index declined 0.47 points at 10,892.37.


The Products and Services Industry Index peaked 0.03 points at 201.98, the Financial Services index added 22.91 points at 15,656.78 while the Plantation index declined 2.76 points at 6,626.16.
