Tony Fernandes Says Omicron Not Omicron, The Aviation Sector Must Walk

AirAsia Group Bhd chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes expects the international aviation and travel sector to recover soon despite the emergence and spread of the Omicron variant.


Citing an interview between Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and US news channel Squawk Box Asia on Monday, January 10, he said there was very strong demand in the domestic aviation sector between Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia this year compared to last year. .



For now Thailand and India have re-imposed flight restrictions following an increase in cases involving the Omicron variant but he expects international travel to return to the time before Covid-19 about 6 months after the border opened which was expected in March.


Meanwhile, AirAsia's transportation business services launched in August last year 'exceeded expectations' and were performing 'very well'.


As of this morning, AirAsia shares were trading at 0.79 sen or 2.60% and its market value was at RM3.08 billion.
