‘Did you know, if you worked on Meta you would be called Metamates.’
Meta Inc took a serious step into the metaverse world by asking its employees formerly known as ‘Facebookers’ to change their nickname to ‘Metamates’.
It is common knowledge that last year Facebook rebranded its company to Meta, so in conjunction with the change, Meta Inc also changed the new motto.
Meta Inc's chief executive officer (CEO), Mark Zuckerberg has introduced the company's new motto, ‘Meta, metamates, me’, which he said among their employees will be called Metamates.
He said the new motto is in line with the company's management inspiration and mission, which is to instill a sense of responsibility to achieve collective success as a team.
The motto is believed to be taken from the navy saying, ‘ship, shipmates, self’ which was used by Instagram for a while.
In addition, Zuckerberg also changed the value of the company from ‘move fast’ to ‘move fast together’ as a new beginning for his company even though the journey towards the metaverse is still far away.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Silicon Valley giants often use jargon and cultural elements in their company motto or values, for example Google which uses the motto ‘Don’t be evil’.
Turning back to Metamates, it got a mixed reaction among Meta employees and citizens of the world, where there were some who liked it and there were some who didn’t.
