Prime Minister Boris Johnson appeared to make a new announcement after Russia's declaration of war on Ukraine. In a recent statement, he noted that Britain and its allies would take action by imposing far greater economic sanctions to shake up the Russian economy after the Kremlin launched an all-out aggression on neighboring Ukraine on Thursday.
Western countries are expected to announce tighter sanctions after earlier this week imposing they have used more warning-like economic sanctions. But unfortunately the sanctions did not make Russia to retreat and even take tougher action.
“Today, together with our allies, we will agree to greater economic sanctions to shake up the Russian economy,” Johnson said in his latest speech.
He said the West must end its dependence on Russian oil and gas that has given Russian President Vladimir Putin a grip on Western politics.
In an initial comment on Twitter the British leader called the invasion a “catastrophe” for Europe, and said he would hold talks with other G7 countries.
Foreign Minister Liz Truss said she had called on the Russian ambassador to explain Moscow's actions in Ukraine. Britain, the United States and the European Union, have threatened to impose tougher sanctions on Russia if it invades Ukraine.
Finally, Johnson assured the people of Britain that his administration would do everything possible to keep our country safe.
