Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reportedly told UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the next 24 hours are critical as he leads his country’s defense against Russian attacks.
Zelensky made the remarks in a phone call with Boris Johnson on Sunday afternoon, the BBC reported.
Meanwhile, a UK government spokesman said that during the call, PM Johnson praised Zelensky’s leadership since the Russian invasion.
He also said that the UK would do whatever it could to ensure defense aid from the UK and its allies reached Ukraine.
A Ukrainian delegation is scheduled to meet Russia ‘unconditionally’ on Monday on the border with Belarus, although Zelensky said he sees little prospect for any talks that will bear fruit.
Earlier, PM Johnson had set aside a dramatic announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had ordered his nuclear forces on high alert on Sunday.
However, the statement received a response from the United States which described it as ‘totally unacceptable’ and accused the Russian leader of only fabricating threats to justify further aggression.
