Russia has announced a reduction in its military operations in two key regions of Ukraine as the two countries meet for face-to-face peace talks in Turkey on Tuesday.
Moscow said it would reduce its military activity around the capital Kiev and and the northern city of Chernihiv.
Russia’s allegations were confirmed by the United States, in which Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told that Moscow troops had begun moving some of its troops in Ukraine from the area around Kiev to other places.
However, he warned that the movement of troops did not mean they were retreating given that Russia had also done so before the attack on Ukraine began on 24 February.
The US also sees no ‘real sign of seriousness’ from Russia in continuing peace talks, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken who pointed to the ongoing attacks in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also believes that the withdrawal is intended to confuse its military leadership and create misunderstandings about their deployment.
During the negotiations in Istanbul, Ukraine had proposed to become a neutral (neutral) state that does not side with any country in exchange for security guarantees.
