Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for intervention from China to stop Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.
This is because China has long claimed it has a role as one of the world’s great powers and a contributor to global peace and stability and it needs to act in line with its claims.
Morrison also said that no country will have a greater impact at this time on Russia’s violent aggression on Ukraine than China.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping had met in Beijing days before the war in Ukraine began, witnessing an unrestricted friendship agreement minutes on the lips of the two leaders.
Since then, China has avoided making direct criticism of the war in addition to expressing sympathy for Russia's justification and refusing to join sanctions imposed by Western countries.
Meanwhile, Morrison accused Beijing of providing economic assistance to its allies by easing trade restrictions on Russian wheat imports.
He also voiced concern about a Chinese firm participating to replace the Visa and Mastercard payment system services that have been frozen in Russia, namely UnionPay.
