Bursa Malaysia is red following Wall Street

 At 9.05am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 6.10 points at 1,612.44 from Thursday's close of 1,618.54.


The index opened 2.54 points weaker at 1,616.00.


It opened in a pullback from yesterday's gains following a volatile performance on Wall Street linked to the Russia-Ukraine crisis.


On the broader market, investors saw losers outpacing gainers by 279 to 129, while 215 counters were unchanged, 1,617 untraded and 10 suspended.


Total turnover at 203.5 million units worth RM109.72 million.



Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said major Wall Street indices experienced declines in yesterday's trading session and concerns over the Russia-Ukraine war pushed up commodity prices.


He added that foreign funds will continue to accumulate local stocks to take advantage of the lower valuation and expect the index to be at 1,610-1,625.


Heavyweights saw Maybank fall 4 sen at RM9.08, Public Bank Bhd remained at RM4.43, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd rose 26 sen at RM10.26, Press Metal Aluminum Holdings Bhd lost 2 sen at RM7.20 and IHH Healthcare Bhd fell 3 sen at RM6.54.


Active stocks saw China Automobile Parts Holdings Bhd rise 1 sen to 20 sen, TDM Bhd jumped 1.5 sen to 32.5 sen and Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) declined 2 sen to RM1.06.


On the index board, FBM Emas was down 42.41 points at 11,435.26, FBM Emas Shariah was down 53.93 points at 12,187.72, FBM 70 was back 39.56 points at 13,398.53, FBMT 100 was down 40.09 points at 11,114.65 and FBM ACE was down 61.88 points at 5,614.71.


In terms of sector, the Products and Services Industry index strengthened 1.57 points at 215.89, the Financial Services index contracted 29.04 points at 16,478.44 and the Plantation index declined 30.89 points at 8,751.70.
