The world's largest pharmacy, CVS Health has filed a trademark application for the purpose of selling downloadable virtual items and offering health services in the metaverse space.
It is understood CVS wants to sell prescription drugs and other medical products such as personal care, health, beauty and wellness in virtual pharmacies. That way, CVS can also verify the authenticity of its products and sales with the use of non-fungible token (NFT) technology.
The decision taken by CVS is reminiscent of the largest supermarket chain, Walmart, which also joined the metaverse and the use of NFT through a trademark application on January 18.
If the application is successful, CVS may be the first healthcare service to penetrate the metaverse market.
For the record, CVS Health is the company that founded CVS Pharmacy and health insurance manufacturer, Aetna.
CVS is also listed in the Fortune 500, ranking 4th with a market value of $ 268.7 million after Apple (#3), Amazon (#2), and Walmart (#1).
