The U.S. House of Representatives passed a law that will fund the government through September that includes an allocation of $ 13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine.

Congress needs to pass the spending bill on Friday to prevent a government shutdown and send it to President Joe Biden for signature.

The House faced outrage from the people over the $ 15.6 billion cut in Covid-19 aid following the escalating pandemic situation.

Meanwhile, the allocation released to Ukraine is intended to help strengthen its military as it fights the Russian army and as humanitarian aid to the people, including an estimated 1.5 million refugees already out of the country.

In addition, the House also passed legislation to restrict imports of oil and other energy from Russia in response to its attacks on Ukraine despite some opposition from U.S. lawmakers.

The approval came a day after President Joe Biden announced his executive power to impose such a ban.

The move indirectly portrays lawmakers as resolute in supporting U.S. trade sanctions. It also called for a review of Russia’s participation in several international trade programs such as the World Trade Organization (WTO).
