 At 9am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 1.20 points at 1,594.50 from Thursday's close of 1,595.70.


The index opened 0.88 points strong at 1,596.58.


It opened weak as a result of tracking the overnight performance of the Wall Street market ahead of the trading week holiday season in the United States during a mixed corporate earnings report.


On the broader market, investors saw losers at 169 outpacing gainers at 82, while 227 counters were unchanged, 1,774 untraded and 27 suspended.


Total turnover at 137.26 million units worth RM55.86 million.



Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd notes that foreign funds have reduced some equities this week with the local bourse expected to trade in decline.


In addition, the plantation, energy and construction sectors may be a concern due to the anticipation of the 15th general election.


Heavyweights saw Maybank, Public Bank and IHH Healthcare remain at RM8.83, RM4.67 and RM6.52, Petronas Chemicals lost 4 sen at RM10.22 while Press Metal added 1 sen at RM6.61.


Active stocks saw SMTrack and Pappajak remain 8 sen and 52.5 sen, Datasonic was up 2 sen at 51.5 sen while Pertama was down 1 sen at 88 sen and Tanco was down 3.5 sen at 40 sen.


On the index board, the FBMT 100 index declined 9.0 points at 11,092.57, the FBM Emas index declined 8.58 points at 11,446.11, the FBM Emas Shariah index contracted 1.59 points at 12,093.80, the FBM 70 declined 13.81 points at 13,791.86 and the FBM ACE declined 0.70 points at 5,845.62.


In terms of sectors, the Products and Services Industry index retreated 0.03 points at 214.54, the Financial Services index declined 25.10 points at 16,753.69 and the Plantation index accumulated 9.46 points at 8,474.37.
