Recently the crypto exchange platform Gemini has conducted a survey of the population of crypto investors and it involved 30,000 respondents from 20 countries worldwide.

As a result, Indonesia and Brazil, each of which became the countries with the most crypto investors with a rate of 41%, was much higher, leaving the United States (US) which only had 20% and the United Kingdom (UK) with only 18%.

At the same time, as many as 16% of US respondents and 15% of European respondents think that cryptocurrencies are inflation protectors.

The record is far different when compared to the reviews in Indonesia and India which recorded 64% confidence of all respondents.

For knowledge, Indonesia and India are among the countries that are ahead of the decline in the value of their currencies compared to the US dollar.

In the period from 2011 to 2020, the rupee has shrunk by 17.5% and the rupiah has also shrunk by 50%.

Gemini also found that as many as 79% of respondents owned crypto assets starting last year as a long-term investment and 7% also planned to do so in the near future.

Indonesia and Crypto Excise

The puzzle is answered if the country led by President Joko Widodo will impose a crypto trade excise of 0.1%, along with a 0.1% value-added excise (VAT).

It is understood that the excise tax will begin to take effect on May 1, 2022.

When compared to Dubai and Singapore, the excise duty imposed by Indonesia is the lowest in the world.

Before this, there were rumors that said Indonesia would ban cryptocurrencies.

The opposite applies if the country simply blocks any use of crypto currency as a medium of payment other than rupiah but may be traded as a commodity.
