'Many can't wait to go on vacation abroad, huh. Don't forget to buy some ole-ole.'

Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG)* plans to increase its aircraft capacity by 15% to 20% in the pre-Covid-19 phase budgeted this month following the reopening of the Malaysian border.

*MAG is the parent company of Malaysia Airlines Bhd.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MAG, Captain Izham Ismail, the company predicts that by the end of the year the flight capacity will reach 70% compared to the pre-Covid-19 capacity stage.

Captain Izham added, there is an increasing trend of demand (inbound) from India, United Kingdom (UK) and Europe to Malaysia, so it is not surprising if the airline company sees capacity to increase by 80% in the future.

Meanwhile, when he was interviewed after the majlis signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysian Crafts Association on Monday, Captain Izham stated again that domestic commerce is seen as growing with a very high load factor moving between Sabah and Sarawak.

MAG in a statement said bookings had been increasing in recent weeks after the kingdom announced the reopening of the country's borders on April 1.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Chief Handicrafts Director, Aididah Ibrahim, stated that the MoU aims to promote and market local handcrafted products through several initiatives that will take advantage of handicraft entrepreneurs and state airline customers through Malaysia's Arilines digital platform, JOURNIFY.

For knowledge, JOURNIFY is an e-commerce platform developed by Malaysia Airlines to make it easier for travelers to find shopping locations, places to eat, tours and other interesting information about Malaysia.
