Malaysia's user price index (CPI) saw an increase of 2.2% to 125.6 versus 122.9 recorded in March 2021.
The case was ratified by the Malaysian Ranking Office on 22 April 2022, further indicating that the average inflation rate has increased by 2.2% for the period January 2011 to March 2022, reaching a level of 1.9%.
Continuing the fact that the Chief Framing Expert, Datuk Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, among the main contributors to the increase was due to a 4% year-on-year increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages collection.
He explained, food items continued to be the main contributor to inflation and the spike was due to an increase in the household food component of 4.3% compared to 4.1% last month.
He added that food sub-groups such as meat also continued to be a contributor to the 7.6% rise in food inflation in March 2020, with chicken increasing 10.5% while beef shed 4.3%.
Among other groups are as follows:
Collection of furniture, home furnishings and home maintenance accounted for 3%.
A collection of restaurants and hotels recorded 2.0%.
The haulage pool recorded 2.6%.
The assortment of goods and services rose 1.9%.
Reaction and cultural service collection added 1.1%.
Collection of housing (water, electricity and other fire materials) and children's education 0.9%.
Group health jumped 0.2%.
Meanwhile, the March 2022 base monthly CPI posted 0.3% tail growth in the freight pool at 1.1% and the miscellaneous and services pool at 0.6%.
The inflation core also saw a 2% year-over-year spike in March 2022 with the freight index recording the largest hundredths of 3.9%.
