Russia's RIA news agency, confirmed that a group of Russian residents acted to launch a class action court suit against Netflix.
The suit was reportedly made following the actions of the streaming giant's decision to exit the Russian market.
Citing an RIA statement taken from Chernyshov law firm Lukoyanov & Partners, the firm, which represents the interests of Netflix users in Russia, filed a class action suit against the US streaming service with a claim of 60 million rubles or US $ 726.00 in compensation.
Clearly, the reason behind the lawsuit is because Netlix has violated the rights of consumers in Russia by acting to stop its services in that country.
So far, Netflix has not issued any counter statement on the suit.
It is common knowledge that Netflix Inc. has decided to suspend service in Russia and discontinue to all future projects in the country after the Moscow government acted to invade Ukraine resulting in thousands of casualties.
In addition to Netflix, there are also many other foreign companies that have announced the suspension of stores or factories in Russia, and some have even acted to exit directly from the Russian market such as Nokia.
