‘It got worse after removing the X50 and X70, yes, I hope the window problem has settled.’

Unconsciously, it has been 10 years since the local car brand, Proton rested (hiatus) but now the silver tiger logo will return to shine behind the purchase in Africa.

Through a collaboration agreement between Proton Holdings Bhd and CMH Group, its main distributor in South Africa, it marks the return of the local car brand after last making a sale in 2012.

According to a statement from Proton, the first shipment of fully imported CBU models will go on sale this September with the Proton X50 and Proton X70 being among the first to be marketed.

In addition, Proton is confident of its sales prospects in South Africa by setting a strong sales forecast for this year and targeting more than double its volume in 2023.

The optimism has been centered on total export sales in the first quarter of this year which recorded an increase of 175% and the company expects by the end of the year sales to reach 300%.

Tracking records, in 2010 Proton saw a total of 29,833 units were exported to overseas markets before it began to decline to 284 units in 2017.

However, last year Proton recorded a total of 3,018 units sold overseas, which is more than 2 times the 1,508 units exported in 2020.

Thus, for 2022, Proton's international sales department has set a target of expanding export sales of 10,000 units.

According to Proton's Director of International Sales, Steven Xu, export sales are the company's long -term goal and they are said to want to exploit the strength of Malaysia's products, brands and relationships with other countries to gain a foothold in many new markets.
