At 9am the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 8.93 points at 1,553.34 from Friday's close of 1,544.41.
The index opened 11.27 points strong at 1,555.68.
The bourse started the morning trading session in the green area following the emergence of buying interest as a result of positive gross domestic product data for the first quarter of 2022 (1Q22) despite mixed sentiment on Wall Street.
On the broader market, investors saw gainers at 191 outpacing losers at 145, while 257 counters were unchanged, 1,662 untraded and 10 suspended.
Total turnover at 302.04 million units worth RM128.47 million.
Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's note stated that bargain-hunting activities will emerge in the recovery and plantation-themed sectors ahead of the earnings season.
In addition, they also expect buying interest to continue in recovery -themed sectors such as consumers and banking.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian economy grew 5% in 1Q22 as a result of support from domestic and external demand including the recovery of the labor market.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) fall 6 sen at RM8.90, Public Bank Bhd and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd rose 2 sen at RM4.55 and RM5.06 while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) collected 39 sen at RM10 .38 and IHH Healthcare Bhd added 1 sen to RM6.45.
Active stocks saw Sapura Energy Bhd rise 1.5 sen at 6 sen, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd added 2 sen at 14 sen, KNM Group Bhd gained 0.5 sen at 18 sen and Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd jumped 6 sen at RM1.41 while CSH Alliance Bhd remained at 11.5 sen.
Apart from that, Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd remained the top gainer at RM2 to RM133.50, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) advanced 78 sen at RM27.36, Harrison Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd added 31 sen at RM5.98, Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd gained 29 sen at RM7.27 and Petron Malaysia Refining & Marketing Bhd was strong 24 sen at RM6.26.
On the index board, FBM ACE decreased 13.28 points at 5,329.35, FBM Emas index advanced 56.57 points at 11,067.37, FBMT 100 index strengthened 54.39 points at 10,741.65, FBM Emas Shariah index expanded 95.70 points at 11,564.11 and FBM 70 increased 36.02 points at 13,092.63
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index contracted 34.50 points at 16,499.87, the Products and Services Industry index increased 3.02 points at 199.81 and the Plantation index reached 98.05 points at 8,277.33.
