There are many factors that influence an employee’s decision to quit a job, yet an Apple Inc. executive uses a policy reason to return to office to resign.
Ian Goodfellow, Apple Machine Learning program director who joined the company in April 2019, has acted to resign in protest of the introduced return to office policy.
According to an email Goodfellow sent to Apple, the main reason for the resignation was because he felt his team was more flexible working from home than entering the office.
Generally, Apple has implemented a return to office policy starting April 11 in stages, but after 2 years of working from home there are a handful of company employees who feel reluctant to return because they already feel comfortable working from home.
For the record, Apple was the first company to instruct its employees to work from home in March 2020, as soon as the Covid-19 virus began to terrorize and spread around the world.
It was a drastic decision to a company that practiced collaborative work practices personally and focused on the development of new hardware products by employees in the office.
Later, Apple CEO Tim Cook decided to introduce a phased back -to -office policy starting April 11 this year, known as the Hybrid Working Pilot.
The Hybrid Working Pilot will see employees having to return to the office one day a week for the first 3 weeks, then 2 days a week the following week.
Next 3 days a week by May 23, with a choice of working days from home on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Even so the policy received strong opposition from its employees who considered the law to have no good flexibility other than inviting fear.
To date, Apple has not issued any further statement on the ongoing opposition to the policy introduced.
