At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 5.22 points at 1,446.46 from Monday's close of 1,441.24.
The index opened strong 2.06 points at 1,443.30.
The bourse opened in a surprise bounce this morning on the back of renewed buying interest in selected heavyweights, in line with positive sentiment in regional markets.
On the broader market, investors saw gainers at 196 outpacing losers at 98, while 200 counters were unchanged, 1,781 untraded and 19 suspended.
Total turnover at 130.05 million units worth RM54.57 million.
Rakuten Trade Sdn, vice president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng said regional markets were expected to recover today, reflecting Wall Street's strong performance.
As a result, the firm expects bargain-hunting activity will not emerge as blue chip stocks have matured with the KLCI likely to be around 1,435 to 1,455.
Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd remain at RM8.65 and RM4.90, Public Bank Bhd added 3 sen at RM4.46, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd gained 1 sen at RM9.49 and IHH Healthcare Bhd jumped 5 sen to RM6.38.
Active stocks saw MNC Wireless Bhd remain at 1.5 sen while SFP Tech Holdings Bhd bloomed 1 sen at 67 sen, Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) gained 1.5 sen at 76.5 sen and Cnergenz Bhd and Sapura Energy Bhd were strong 0.5 sen at 60.5 sen and 40 sen .
On the index board, the FBM Emas index reached 37.14 points at 10,299.37, the FBM Emas Shariah index strengthened 44.88 points at 10,449.92, FBM 70 increased 50.88 points at 12,414.74, FBM ACE gained 26.85 points at 4,764.41 and the FBMT 100 index added 37.45 points at 10,044.44.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index rose 24.11 points at 16,069.10, the Products and Services Industry index strengthened 0.70 points at 184.18 while the Plantation index lost 34.86 points at 7,079.64.
