China Wants to End Ban on Australian Coal? This is Good News!

China is said to be planning to end a ban on Australian coal that has been in place for nearly two years following concerns over supply disruptions may worsen following Russia’s war in Ukraine.

According to sources familiar with the plan, the proposal is likely to be submitted to senior leaders for Beijing to resume Australian imports.

This follows concerns that Western -led sanctions on Russian energy will increase competition for coal from major Chinese suppliers such as Indonesia.

Implemented Western sanctions could also add pressure on global markets amid rising demand for the fuel and tightening global supply.

China, once a major consumer of Australia's coal, implemented an unofficial ban in late 2020 as tensions between Canberra and Beijing escalated over then-prime minister Scott Morrison's call to investigate the origins of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing was ready to re -establish relations between the two countries on Friday.

However, Australia needs to correct its understanding of China and not create differences and avoid agreeing with other countries to boycott the country.
