Bursa started the trading session earlier in the week with cautious sentiment ahead of the Central Bank Malaysia (BNM) Policy Committee meeting scheduled for July 5 and 6.
At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 1.32 points at 1,448.42 from Friday's close of 1,449.74.
The index opened 0.24 points weaker at 1,449.50.
On the broader market, losers at 136 outnumbered gainers at 107, while 197 counters were unchanged, 1,788 untraded and 14 suspended.
Total turnover at 126.12 million units worth RM46.62 million.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd's vice president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng in his note said market volatility is expected to remain temporary and the benchmark KLCI is expected to be at 1,440-1,460.
Heavyweights saw Public Bank Bhd add 1 sen to RM4.43 while Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd remained at RM8.62 and RM9.08.
IHH Healthcare Bhd fell 5 sen to RM6.43, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd fell 1 sen to RM5.02 and Petronas Gas Bhd declined 4 sen to RM16.46.
Active stocks saw Reach Energy Bhd rise 0.5 sen at 6 sen, Yew Lee Pacific Group Bhd and Unitrade Industries Bhd added 1 sen each at 24.5 sen and 28 sen, MMAG Holdings Bhd remained at 5.5 sen, Top Glove Corp Bhd declined 1.5 sen at 99.5 sen and Vortex Consolidated Bhd fell 0.5 sen at 18 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas index decreased 4.74 points at 10,311.14, the FBM Emas Shariah index decreased 15.16 points at 10,465.82, FBM 70 drove 16.08 points at 12,419.62, FBM ACE declined 32.73 points at 4,751.79 and the FBMT 100 index declined 3.97 points at 10,055.74.
In terms of sector, the Financial Services index reached 9.67 points at 16,066.48, the Products and Services Industry index was flat at 181.69 and the Plantation index added 4.57 points at 6,929.29.
