Exchanges Make ‘U-Turn’ Early Week To Trade Weak

 Bursa Malaysia's trading session earlier in the week showed a slightly positive opening before retreating into negative territory after tracking Wall Street's weak overnight performance.


At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 2.85 points at 1,422.94 from Friday's close of 1,425.79.


The index opened 0.40 points strong at 1,426.19.


On the broader market, losers at 226 outnumbered gainers at 105, while 193 counters were unchanged, 1,716 untraded and 8 suspended.


Total turnover at 251.31 million units worth RM70.4 million.


Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd's vice president of equity research, Thong Pak Leng in his note that the market is on high alert ahead of the earnings season which will begin this week.



As such, the KLCI is expected to be in the range of 1,415 to 1,430 today.


Heavyweights saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) gain 1 sen at RM8.63, IHH Healthcare Bhd added 4 sen at RM6.40 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) gained 1 sen at RM7.93.


Meanwhile, Public Bank Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) fell 2 sen at RM4.38 and RM8.45 respectively while CIMB Group Holdings Bhd fell 3 sen at RM5.11.


Active stocks saw TWL Holdings Bhd lose 1.5 sen at 5 sen, Metronic Global Bhd rose 5.5 sen at 15 sen, Top Glove Corp Bhd added 1 sen at RM1, Aturmaju Resources Bhd declined 0.5 sen at 10.5 sen and Dagang NeXchange Bhd (DNeX) declined 1 cent at 75.5 cents.


On the index board, the FBM Emas index declined 23.65 points at 10,112.88, the FBM Emas Shariah index declined 28.27 points at 10,165.65, the FBM 70 weakened 37.13 points at 12,159.18, the FBMT 100 index contracted 22.20 points at 9,870.88 and the FBM ACE declined 48.72 points at 4,619.09.


In terms of sectors, the Financial Services index declined 21.39 points at 16,055.73, the Products and Services Industry index weakened 1.03 points at 171.80, the Energy index declined 8.04 points at 628.40 and the Plantation index contracted 1.90 points at 6,632.96.
