Meta Platform Inc is currently facing a lawsuit after MetaX LLC filed a complaint regarding the trademark name ‘Meta’.

It is understood MetaX, a company that creates virtual reality experiences, claims Meta Platform stole the name taken in conjunction with the acronym for metaverse.

For enlightenment purposes, this article will use ‘Facebook’ to refer to Meta Platform Inc.

According to a complaint filed by MetaX, Facebook's rebranding action has 'destroyed' the company's ability to 'operate as Meta'.

Following that, MetaX sought a court order to block Facebook from using the ‘Meta’ brand on goods or services that overlap with the company name in addition to claiming damages.

Generally Facebook rebranded the company in October 2021 while MetaX was founded in 2010 by Justin ‘JB’ Bolognino.

Bolognino argued in a statement, Facebook not only put its business in ‘danger’ but the entire industry as well as the intellectual property rights of the innovators who helped build it due to the branding.

He added that the rebranding of Facebook will also lead people to mistakenly believe that the company is merging and allow them to sink into the market.

For the record, MetaX is known for offering a ‘virtual experience’ through the use of technologies such as VR and AR.

In addition, the company also discussed the potential of a partnership with Facebook in 2017 with one of the social media executives praising the MetaX product.

So far, Facebook has not given any response.
