Bursa Malaysia's trading session continued today's trading flow on a negative note due to mixed performance on Wall Street, a string of corporate report releases and the FOMC meeting.
At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 4.24 points at 1,466.80 from Monday's close of 1,469.22.
The index opened 2.73 points lower at 1,466.49.
In the broader market, losers at 148 outnumbered gainers at 133, while 247 counters were unchanged, 1,781 untraded and 27 suspended.
Total revenue at 237.15 million units worth RM80.61 million.
Commenting on Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's notes, the performance of the local stock market is seen to outperform its regional peers with the main index recording gains during the late session to close at a high for the day.
However, the firm pointed out that sentiment may change as investors await the outcome of the Federal Reserve's rate hike meeting amid mixed movements on Wall Street.
In the meantime, investors are expected to pay attention to the consumer and banking sectors due to their defensive characteristics as well as the cyclical environment of interest in addition to underlining the healthcare sector due to the discovery of cases of monkeypox infection in Singapore.
Heavyweight stocks saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), Public Bank Bhd and Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd each shed 1 sen at RM8.79, RM4.61 and RM8.63 while IHH Healthcare Bhd and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd each fell. 2 sen at RM6.43 and RM5.20.
Active shares showed UMediC Group Bhd which made its debut in the ACE market advanced 19.5 sen to 51.5 sen, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd and South Malaysia Industries Bhd reached 1 sen to 9.5 sen and 37.5 sen while Zen Tech International Bhd and VinVest Capital Holdings Bhd remained 5.5 cents and 18 cents.
On the index board, the FBM Emas index decreased by 25.53 points at 10,374.36, the FBM Emas Shariah index decreased by 32.81 points at 10,413.43, the FBM 70 weakened by 11.95 points at 12,377.01, the FBMT 100 index decreased by 25.71 points at 10,134.66 and the FBM ACE decreased by 18.91 points at 4,731.
In terms of sectors, the Plantation index advanced 9.77 points at 6,884.14 and the Energy index reached 3.65 points at 636.38 while the Products and Services Industry index decreased 0.76 points at 176.50 and the Financial Services index declined 16.54 points at 16,493.08.
