Stock Market Fails to Make a Bounce, Risk-Off Sentiment Dominates the Market

 Bursa Malaysia trading tried to bounce back at the beginning of the session but failed after tracking broad market sentiment that was overshadowed by concerns about the United States (US) FOMC meeting.


At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 2.51 points at 1,461.18 from Tuesday's close of 1,463.69.


The index opened 0.44 points stronger at 1,464.13.


In the broader market, losers at 161 outnumbered gainers at 129, while 222 counters were unchanged, 1,778 untraded and 20 suspended.


Total revenue at 176.28 million units worth RM62.93 million.



Commenting on Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's note, market sentiment is currently full of concerns with the FOMC meeting and the reading of US gross domestic product (GDP) data to be released on Thursday.


That streak, firms expect stocks with defensive characteristics to be preferred with real estate investment trusts and the consumer sector showing movement in market volatility.


Heavyweight stocks saw Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), Public Bank Bhd and IHH Healthcare Bhd remain at RM8.79, RM4.60 and RM6.43 while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd lost 0.5 sen at RM8.57 and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd lost 1 sen. at RM5.19.


Active shares saw Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd and Sapura Energy Bhd remain at 11 sen and 4.5 sen while Metronic Global Bhd, Pertama Digital Bhd and Destini Bhd advanced 0.5 sen at 10.5 sen, 88 sen and 11 sen respectively.


On the index board, the FBM Emas Index decreased by 14.24 points at 10,361.51, the FBM Emas Shariah index decreased by 20.50 points at 10,401.49, the FBMT 100 index decreased by 15.70 points at 10,118.15, the FBM ACE fell by 23.82 points at 4,705.88 and the FBM 70 weakened by 12.18 points at 1,529.31.


In terms of sectors, the Plantation index decreased by 6.57 points at 6,843.19, the Financial Services index decreased by 2.12 points at 16,483.90 and the Products and Services index decreased by 0.69 points at 176.71 while the Energy index gained 3.09 points at 644.17.
