 Bursa Malaysia's trading session started weak due to profit-taking activity after tracking Wall Street and the local market's profit record last week.


At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 2.56 points at 1,463.24 from Friday's close of 1,465.8.


The index opened up 0.77 points at 1,451.09.


In the broader market, losers at 255 outnumbered gainers at 120, while 224 counters were unchanged, 1,697 untraded and 26 suspended.


Total revenue at 204.87 million units worth RM85.73 million.


Comment on Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd's notes, the broader market may be in a positive trend in the near term following a significant decline in the past 2 weeks.



In addition, the firm also listed the conditions of the Federal Reserve (Fed) of the United States (US) as the main focus of investors this week.


Meanwhile, a fall in the Nasdaq may weigh on the technology sector while banking counters and consumer stocks are expected to be options ahead of the reporting season in August.


Heavyweight stocks saw Malayan Banking Bhd down 2 sen at RM8.79, Public Bank Bhd down 1 sen at RM4.56 and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd down 3 sen at RM5.22 while Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd reached 4 sen at RM8.64 and IHH Healthcare Bhd added 1 sen to RM6.49.


Active shares showed Top Glove Corp Bhd advanced 3.5 sen to RM1.03, Careplus Group Bhd and Supermax Corporation Bhd jumped 2 sen to 44 sen and 84 sen while BSL Corporation Bhd lost 0.5 sen to 9 sen and Borneo Oil Bhd remained at 2.5 sen.


On the index board, the FBM Emas index decreased by 24.61 points at 10,371.47, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased by 25.19 points at 10,436.55, the FBM 70 weakened by 50.87 points at 12,399.16, the FBMT 100 index decreased by 23.28 points at 10,130.56 and the FBM ACE decreased by 57.84 points at 34.731.


In terms of sectors, the Plantation index decreased by 3.25 points at 6,863, the Energy index weakened by 4.23 points at 638.61, the Product and Service Industry index decreased by 0.27 points at 176.77 and the Financial Services index declined by 28.87 points at 16,420.82.
