Japanese video game giant Sony Corp plans to focus on computing and mobile devices in maintaining its identity as a major leader in the gaming industry.

This was stated by Shuichi Mugitani, Sony's marketing planner, who confirmed that consumers prefer computer (PC) games over consoles.

It indirectly led to the launch of its PC gaming hardware product, Inzone last month and the company aims in 2025 to release more PC and mobile game focused titles.

It is also understood that Sony will change its software strategy to its main core, which is the PlayStation.

The change that Sony is trying to bring is definitely closely related to the game market which saw console sales only make up 13% of the $14.2 billion record during 2021.

In general, Sony is very famous for the production and success of PlayStation products which sold almost 100 million units during the introduction of the console.

Even so, lately the game trend is seen to be changing to the form of mobile games such as social media games.

It was exacerbated by the drop in demand for console games after the end of the pandemic, which had a profound effect on Sony.

Pleased to note that Sony has lowered its revenue forecast for the current fiscal year and stated that it may miss out on growth opportunities if it continues to focus on consoles.

On the other hand, Sony's close competitor Microsoft is also seen to be looking to shift the core of their gaming console, the Xbox.

Overall, the shift to PC is seen as increasingly 'brisk' among developers with Capcom President Haruhiro Tsujimoto stating that computer games are bringing new sales territory.
