Towards the end of August, the ceiling price of a raw chicken was maintained at RM9.40 per kilogram while the price of raw eggs continued to enjoy a subsidy of 3 sen by the government.
This matter was announced by Tan Sri Annuar Musa following the implementation of the RM9.40 ceiling price mechanism announced by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof.
According to the mechanism presented, the price ceiling is said to be unlikely to continue after August 31 due to the stabilization of domestic chicken supply.
In addition, the government has also previously set the price of Grade A at 45 sen while Grade B at 43 sen and Grade C at 41 sen effective July 1 for a period of 2 months.
However, the latest statement from Tan Sri Annuar, Chairman of the Jihad Against Inflation Task Force, mentioned that before the Cabinet makes a new decision, the mechanism will continue after 31 August.
In the meantime, he also said the Cabinet had allowed some chicken farmers to export their produce after getting approval from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) in October.
It is a continuation of the government's previous decision which banned the export of chicken from June 1 after the issue of lack of supply and price spikes.
Even so, the stable supply of chickens flanked by pressure from farmers has given the government room to withdraw the ban.
