Mirroring the Global Equity Market, Bursa Malaysia Also Experienced a Decline

 Bursa Malaysia started trading today to open weak, reflecting Wall Street's volatile trading session overnight.


At 9am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was down 7.43 points at 1,487.62 from Tuesday's close of 1,495.05.


The index opened 6.47 points lower at 1,488.58.


In the broader market, losers at 235 outnumbered gainers at 81, while 204 counters were unchanged, 1,715 untraded and 9 suspended.


Total revenue at 126.77 million units worth RM54.76 million.


According to Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd, the main factor that contaminates market sentiment is the reading of the United States (US) job opening data which has decreased, thus affecting the main Wall Street index.



In addition, the arrival of the US representative Nancy Pelosi in Taiwan despite the stern warning of the Chinese government further clouded the market situation when many other countries began to intervene.


Even so, the firm expects continued purchases from foreign funds to continue to support the local bourse.


Heavyweight stocks saw Malayan Banking Bhd and Public Bank Bhd down 4 sen at RM8.84 and RM4.62, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd down 5 sen at RM5.20, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd up 7 sen at RM8.92 while IHH Healthcare Bhd remained at RM6.42.


Active stocks saw CSH Alliance Bhd and Borneo Oil Bhd steady at 5.5 sen and 2.5 sen, TWL Holdings Bhd and Dagang NeXchange Bhd up 0.5 sen at 6.5 sen and 80 sen and Malaysian Genomics Resource Center Bhd added 6 sen at 77 sen.


On the index board, FBM Emas Shariah index decreased by 36.63 points at 10,660.52, FBM ACE decreased by 28.67 points at 4,767.91, FBMT 100 index decreased by 43.71 points at 10,292.97, FBM Emas Index decreased by 44.43 points at 10,538.07 and FBM 70 weakened by 22.42 points at 12,572.


In terms of sectors, the Plantation index weakened by 4.97 points at 7,023.08, the Products and Services index contracted by 0.36 points at 184.08, the Energy index decreased by 0.73 points at 657.86 and the Financial Services index weakened by 80.56 points at 16,570.71.
