A few weeks after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the monkeypox epidemic as a global health emergency, it is now Uncle Sam's turn to make the same announcement.

It follows an increase of 6,000 new cases involving monkeypox in the United States (US), with a quarter of them identified in New York.

For the record, 1/4 of the cases that appeared in New York have caused the city to declare a state of emergency on its own while California and Illinois are the 2 states with the highest cases in the US.

It is understood that the declaration will speed up the distribution of vaccines, treatment and federal resources in curbing the transmission of the monkeypox virus.

In general, previously the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported nearly 26,000 confirmed cases worldwide this year.

This has made Joe Biden's government announce that those with symptoms should seek treatment and take vaccinations.

In the meantime, the announcement was made during a shortage of monkeypox vaccine across the US.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, they have ordered more than 5 million additional doses to be delivered next month.

In addition, the White House announced the appointment of a team to coordinate and control the nation's monkeypox response.
