Crypto.com, the high-profile cryptocurrency platform that used movie star Matt Damon in its advertising mistakenly transferred $10.5 million to a Melbourne woman.
This happened when Crypto.com needed to give Ms. Manivel a $100 refund, but entered the wrong account number in the transfer payment section.
As such, the company launched legal action in the Supreme Court against Thevamanogari Manivel and his sister Thilagavathy Gangadory 7 months after they became aware of the mistake.
A transaction error of $10,474,143 was noticed in an audit of the company before last Christmas.
Meanwhile, Crypto.com tried to get their money back, but as much as $1.35 million was spent on a luxury house in the Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn that has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a gym and a cinema, while the rest of the money was transferred to another account.
For context, Crypto.com successfully obtained a freezing order against Ms. Manivel's bank account, but court documents show $10.1 million was transferred to a different joint account and $430,000 was transferred to the account of her daughter, Raveena Vijian.
In fact, the home registration was subsequently transferred to Ms. Gangadory who was based in Malaysia before Crypto.com made a freezing order against her.
In that string, Judge James Dudley Elliott ordered Ms Gangadory to pay Crypto.com $1.35 million, interest of $27,369 including the sale of the Craigieburn home.
He added that they have not yet responded to the correspondence from Crypto.com's solicitors and have not filed an appearance, however until now Ms. Manivel and Ms. Gangadory cannot be contacted.
